Hidden Washer And Dryer In Bathroom
Whether you are a full-time RVer or vacationing for a few weeks in your RV, you don't want to cut your trip short due to a lack of clean laundry. So, check out our 10 Best RVs and Campers with a Washer and Dryer so you can avoid that problem.
Spending time and money at some campground laundromat or running into town to find a local laundromat can be a real time-killer as well. Vacation time is precious, and you want to be sure you can spend as much of it as you can not sitting in a laundromat.
However, the ugly truth is that clothing, linens, etc. get dirty while traveling. Laundry is one of those inescapable facts of life. So, why not consider the possibility of adding a washer/dryer option to your new, or even your current, RV or camper?
Is Adding a Washer and Dryer to Your RV or Camper a Standard Option?
Many RVs and campers can provide the luxury and convenience of being able to do your laundry in your motorhome while enjoying your open road adventures.
Typically, most motorhomes or campers do not come with a washer/dryer already installed. However, they do have the option of having the hookups installed, which is often located in a closet or wardrobe. Then you simply select and purchase a washer/dryer combo when you buy your RV.
Adding a washer/dryer can make life on the open road much more convenient, allowing for more efficient use of your time. If you have your own washer/dryer installed in your RV, you can do your laundry while at your campground. And this beats being stuck all day pumping quarters into the machines at some laundromat!
Even for small campers without washer/dryer hookups available, there are ways to do your laundry while still enjoying the evening sitting around the campfire toasting marshmallows.
Types of Washers and Dryers in RVs and Campers
Before we look at the different RV models with washers and dryers, and their hookups, let's first look at the different types of washer/dryer options available to RVers.
There are three kinds of washers and dryers most often used by RVers. They are:
- RV Stackable Washer/Dryers
- RV Washer/Dryer Combos
- Portable RV Washer/Dryers
Each of these options has its pros and cons. And there are two variations for each of the three types.
First, we will take a look at the two variations. These two variations are vented and non-vented.
Vented Washers and Dryers for RVs and Campers
Vented washers and dryers use the air in the room to dry clothes. These types of RV washers and dryers will require an air exhaust vent in your RV.
Non-Vented Washers and Dryers for RVs and Campers
Ventless RV washer/dryers heat the air inside the drum to dry the clothes. They do a pretty good job, but experienced RVers generally try to avoid these types of RV washers and dryers. They use a lot of water, and the drying cycle can take a long time. However, if a non-vented washer/dryer is what fits in your RV, they will undoubtedly do the job.
Pros and Cons of RV Washer and Dryers
RV Stackable Washer/Dryers
Stackable washers and dryers for RVs are smaller and lighter versions of those used in many homes. They typically handle 12-pound loads, and the two cycles can be run simultaneously. If your RV has space, and you will be doing large laundry loads while on the road, they are the preferred choice for many RVers.
Pros
- Load size is similar to what you would expect from home units
- Ability to simultaneously run a wash and dry cycle
- Vented, so they don't use water to dry the clothes
- Faster drying cycles
Cons
- Not available for smaller RVs
- Higher water usage
RV Washer/Dryer Combos
Washer/Dryer Combos are another popular choice for RVers looking for an efficient RV washer/dryer appliance. The combo uses a single drum for both the washing and drying cycles. These units often can automatically change from the washing cycle to the drying cycle without any input from the user.
Pros
- Easy to use
- Designed for smaller RVs
- Set it and forget cycle switching
- Available in both vented and non-vented models
Cons
- Smaller loads
- Up to three hours per load, and if overloaded, time significantly increases
- Uses a lot of water
Portable RV Washer/Dryers
Portable Washers
Portable washers allow you to do your laundry wherever you have access to an electrical outlet, sink, and a drain. Some models don't even require electricity to work, running on "human power." These portable washers are perfect for RVers who don't have the option for a washer/dryer hookup in their RV, and small loads can be done in under 20 minutes.
Portable Dryers
Many portable dryers are non-vented, and some models have sensors that keep track of how damp your clothes are and apply heat on an as-needed basis. Many models are available with multiple heating and drying cycle options.
Pros
- Water-efficient
- Compact
- Require little, if any, electricity
- Affordable
- Easy storage
- Loads are done quickly (especially the wash cycle)
Cons
- Many units are quite heavy, about 100 pounds
- Manual operation
- Lower quality than other types of washers and dryers
- Not a good option for RVers for permanent mounting
Now that we have examined the options available to RVers for washers and dryers, let's take a look at some of the most popular RV models and the washer/dryer options they offer.
Ten Best RVs and Campers with a Washer and Dryer (or Hookup)
Best Class A RVs With a Washer and Dryer
Class A motorhomes are luxury recreational vehicles built on a heavy-duty chassis or stripped truck chassis. Class A motorhomes integrate the driving compartment with the interior living space. These are the largest and most luxurious RVs and are popular with full-time RVers. They offer plenty of space for a family and/or pets and have an adequate towing capacity to tow a car for side excursions for sightseeing and trips to the local grocer.
Most Class A RVs over 30 feet in length will have washer/dryer hookups. Models shorter than 30 feet don't have the space to include a washer/dryer. Some higher-end Class A models may come with the washer/dryer already installed, but most often, they simply include the closet space and hookups. The washer/dryer unit is an additional purchase.
1. 2019 Forest River FR3 (30DS, 33DS, 34DS)
The FR3 Crossover Gas Class A motorhome offers many excellent features at an affordable price. It has a family-friendly living area with the space, convenience, and styling of its Class A cousins.
Three models offer the option of a combo washer/dryer. The 30DS is measured at 31 feet 8 inches in length, the 33DS is 34 feet 10 inches, and the 34DS comes in at 35 feet 11 inches. All three model features two slide outs and a king-size bed, and include the latest in safety and convenience features including an extra-wide entry door w/ a deadbolt lock, Forest River Command Center, carbon monoxide and LP detectors, smoke alarm, and fire extinguishers.
With these motorhome models, you get an excellent deal for your money.
2. 2019 Fleetwood Pace Arrow LXE
When good simply isn't good enough, the Pace Arrow LXE can take your open road adventures to the next level. This diesel motorhome offers residential-style living and luxury amenities featuring an automotive-style dashboard, beautiful top-of-the-line cabinetry, a two-burner induction cooktop, a Hide-A-Loft drop-down queen bed, a full-sized refrigerator, and a Blu-ray entertainment center.
Three models (the 37R, 38F, and 38K) offer the option for stackable washer/dryer hookups. The 38N provides an alternative for a hidden combo washer/dryer.
This RV is one of the "Cadillacs" of the modern motorhome.
3. 2019 Jayco Embark 37MB
With the 2019 Jayco Embark, luxury and adventure unquestionably come together. The Embark is a diesel motorhome built on a Spartan K1 raised rail chassis with a Cummins ISB turbocharged engine and independent front suspension. This model offers many quality features, including hand-laid polished tile floors, recessed LED lighting, and optional theater seating.
Also available are solid surface countertops with a stainless steel sink, a residential refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser, an induction cooktop, and a 1.5 CU. Ft. convection microwave oven, a king-sized bed, a 50″ LED HDTV with Blu-Ray, and an outside entertainment center as well as many other optional amenities.
The 37MB offers a washer/dryer option in a closet in the bedroom while the 39BH and 39T2 both place the washer/dryer closet in the private master bathroom at the rear of the motorhome.
These three models offer RVers yet another excellent option for motorhomes with available washer/dryer hookups.
Best Class B RVs With a Washer and Dryer
Unfortunately, Class B motorhomes, because of their size constraints, do not come with any washer/dryer hookup options. The portable washers and dryers may be an option to consider when looking at a Class B motorhome.
One manufacturer, Haier, offers an excellent electric washer. You just put the clothes in, hook up the hoses, and let it go! This washer is actually very flexible and can be set it up in the same washer/dryer closets larger RVs provide. Or if you own a Class B motorhome, you can just set it up near the kitchen sink. Once you have it set up in the kitchen, you connect the water hose to the faucet and pop the drain hose in the sink.
In addition to their portable washer, Haier offers a portable dryer as well. Haier does an incredible job of providing top quality compact appliances. You can mount the dryers on the wall or set it on a counter. This terrific little dryer is vented, so it's not going to add to the water in your tanks, and its sensor knows when to shut the dyer off.
Best Class C RVs With a Washer and Dryer
4. 2020 Jayco Seneca Motorhome 37K
The Jayco Seneca Class C diesel motorhome is brilliantly designed to enhance your open road experience, offering true luxury over the long haul. The Seneca offers top-of-the-line amenities like raised panel hardwood cabinets, expandable L-shaped sofa, 1.5 bathrooms, full-sized refrigerator, recessed LED lighting, king-size bed, dual air conditioners, and an outside entertainment center. The Seneca provides you with well-appointed features that make it the perfect RV for any road trip you may take.
Like many well designed RVs, the Jayco Seneca 37K includes a washer/dryer option in a bathroom closet at the rear of the RV. This keeps your laundry-running noises out of earshot of the main living area.
5. 2019 Coachmen Leprechaun 311FS
The Coachmen Leprechaun 311FS is another terrific model if you want a little more luxury while you are away from home. The Leprechaun Class C motorhomes have provided high-quality construction, better interior appointments, and a long list of safety and convenience features since 1973.
The 311FS model offers a bedroom with a real walk-in closet, allowing you to hang your clothes up. Other features include a private entry door into the bathroom for convenience at night, a residential refrigerator, a queen-sized bed, and an outside entertainment center. The slide outs throughout the unit give you plenty of extra space while you are parked and enjoying your vacation. The 311Fs can accommodate a family of up to eight reasonably comfortably.
This model includes space for a side-by-side washer/dryer combo in the bathroom area and far enough away from the living space to keep any laundry noises to a minimum.
Best 5th Wheels With a Washer and Dryer
Fifth wheels can often provide the luxury of a washer/dryer. Here are two examples.
6. 2019 Forest River Sandpiper 378FB
This trailer is perfect for a small family. It sleeps four people and provides a fair amount of living space. The Sandpiper 378FB offers a luxurious master bedroom, one and a half bathrooms, an efficient kitchen and dining area, and a slick entertainment room. This trailer also features an outdoor kitchen for outdoor entertainment.
The Sandpiper's washer/dryer set up is well hidden in a closet in the bathroom. This location is an excellent choice because you don't have the noise of a washer/dryer system running in the main living space of the trailer.
7. 2019 Heartland ElkRidge 37RK
The Elkridge by Heartland is another excellent choice, offering all the features need for comfortable vacation living. The ElkRidge provides all the same luxury features you would expect from a top of the line 5th wheel. They feature tall ceilings, easy-tow-ability, and faster hookups. Amenities include two opposing side slide-out tri-fold sofas, hardwood cabinets and fascia, theater seats with heat and massage capabilities, a large LED TV, a three-burner range, big windows, and a private bedroom.
And, the 37Rk includes a washer/dryer set up in a closet located in the master bedroom. Like the Sandpiper, this allows you to add a stackable washer/dryer while keeping the noise of the system away from the main living space when running.
Best Travel Trailers With a Washer and dryer
8. 2019 Coachmen Catalina Destination Series (Models: 39MKTS, 39RLTS)
The Catalina Destination Series trailer provides everything needed to enjoy extended trips on the open road with your family. With many floor plans to choose from and the option for a Furrion Fireplace in the living room, either of these models could be a perfect choice.
Both the 39MKTS and 39RLTS offer washer/dryer hookups in closets between the bathroom and bedroom areas. Again this location is a good choice to keep the laundry noises down in the main living areas of these models. All you need to do is choose and purchase your favorite stackable washer/dryer system and put it in place.
9. 2020 Open Range Travel Trailer QT310BHS
Open Range explicitly designed these travel trailers for seasoned RVers who enjoy heading out on extended outdoor adventures.
This Open Range model offers a spacious living and kitchen area, plus a private bunkhouse that kids or other guests will enjoy. The master bedroom is on the opposite end of the camper, and there is dual access to the bathroom, making those nighttime trips more convenient.
Several other of the Open Range models including the OT324RES and the OT323RLS offer an option for a washer/dryer hookup.
Best Popup Campers With a Washer and Dryer
Popup campers have minimal space. Sometimes you have to get creative. There are many small portable washers and dryers out there that can work with smaller campers such as the popup models.
Again, as with the Class B motorhomes, you could look at the portable washer/dryer models Haier, and other manufacturers offer. Many models work reasonably well, and they sure beat scrubbing your laundry on rocks in a creek and then using a clothesline to dry them.
In some climates, using a clothesline can be tricky. For example, in the North Woods, with all the moisture in the air, laundry can take a long time to dry … if it ever really does.
Best Truck Camper With a Washer and Dryer
Truck campers also have minimal space. However, you can find a few top-of-the-line truck campers offering optional laundry centers.
10. 2020 Host Campers Mammoth 11′ 6″
Host Campers' Mammoth certainly lives up to its name and offers many amenities including a queen-size bed (optional king-sized bed), cabinets with Shaker doors, a two-door 8 cu ft refrigerator, a large three-burner range, adjustable reading lights, an optional 24″ TV in the bedroom, pleated shades, bathroom power vent, an outside entertainment center, and an exterior shower.
The rear slide-out offers three options, including a sofa with overhead cabinet, a rear wardrobe, and a washer/dryer combo hookup with additional cabinets.
Also, you still have the Haier portable washer/dryer as well as other options mentioned above.
And of course, for drying, you always can still always use the venerable old clothesline … weather permitting, of course.
